Ghariba & Ajeeb, by Boubaker Boukhari (United Arab Emirates, 2024)

Crafted with a sensitivity that is accessible to audiences of all ages, Ghariba & Ajeeb offers a simple yet deeply symbolic narrative. The short film invites us to reflect on how conflicts can be transformed into opportunities for connection.

The story presents us with elements such as: a river that symbolizes the division of a people, but also the possibility of building something new and shared; a giant crocodile that, while representing the guardian of the conflict and a symbol of fear, also plays a key role in the healing process. This narrative reminds us of the human capacity to build alongside others, to create spaces for mediation, and to build bridges even in the most difficult circumstances.

With a technical execution that beautifully blends jewelry-making and animation, this brief yet deeply resonant work earned second place in the "Best International Short Film" category at the 2025 edition of Ciclos Shorts Fest, in the Animated Short Film section.
